Introduction:
During a scheduled Alert Downtime, we observed that majority of the Summary Alerts were grayed out, with a black circle in the middle.

We understand that the black circle in the middle indicates downtime period. However, per our understanding, alerts should still be reporting during a downtime period, it is only the associated action that will not be triggered during this period.

Question:
Why would these Summary Alerts grayed out?

Environment:
CA Application Performance Management 10.5.x, 10.7.x
Answer:

A summary alert provides a way to show the status of multiple underlying simple alerts with one overall status.

A simple alert has one of four states -- not reporting, green, yellow, and red.

Summary alert state is the worst state among the simple alerts it contains

In this case, the Summary Alerts that were grayed out, were simply indicating the worst state of one (or more) of the underlying simple alerts, which in this case, were not reporting at the time of observation.
