Introduction:

INTRODUCTION:

The CA Data Protection (DataMinder) Event Import functionality enables users to integrate with third-party email archives and file storage locations.  It can be configured to import email files in .eml format from these sources.

QUESTION:

Why does CA Data Protection (DataMinder) fail to import .eml files of approximately two gigabytes or over?

ANSWER:

The CA Data Protection (DataMinder) import service has been developed around the x86 32-bit architecture.  32-bit applications have a limitation where they are unable to allocate more than 2GB of memory.  Because of this limitation, the import process will fail on a file of this size.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Please note that, the limitation refers to importing a single file of approximately 2GB in size (or larger) and not on importing a larger file or folder that contains multiple emails that total over 2GB.

The 2GB file size limitation discussed in this technical document is an approximation as there will be a system overhead associated with the import process itself.  Therefore you might notice this issue with files close to but not exceeding the 2GB limit.
