Introduction:
Sometimes we can find open sessions longer than the session timeout we set in the PAM Global Settings. This document provides a potential cause for this situation to occur.
Question:
Why do I see open ssh sessions longer than 40 hours if my PAM Global Settings sets the session timeout to 30 minutes?
Environment:
Any hardware or virtual appliance running any PAM version.
Answer:
A likely cause for finding ssh sessions longer than the value in the Global Settings is having ssh connections to computers which auto refresh these connections every few minutes with keep-alive packets. So, the set timeout value is never reached.
