Issue

When attempting to access CABI BI LaunchPad via the CA SDM Reports tab, receive an error: "null Communication error ocurred when trying to connect to server <CABI server name>:6400 (FWM 01009) gethostbyname () failed: java.net.UnknowHostException"

Environment

CA Service Desk Manger 14.1

CA Business Intelligence 4.1

Cause

The CA Service Desk Manager (SDM) server cannot establish connection to the CA Business Intelligence (CABI) server.

Resolution

1. Via the Central Configuration Manager (CCM) on the CABI server, ensure "Apache Tomcat for BI 4" and "Server Intelligence Agent" processes are up and running

2. Ensure that CABI Server is accessible from the CA SDM server by doing a simple ping test.  For example, on the CA SDM server, open a new command prompt and run:

ping <CABI Server Hostname>

3. Ensure that the CABI CMS port (by default 6400) is accessible from the CA SDM SDM server by doing a simple telnet test.  For example, on the CA SDM server, open a new command prompt and run:

telnet <CABI Serverhostname> 6400

4.  Within the CA SDM Options Manager (Administration ->Options Manager->Web Report), ensure the bo_server_cms, bo_server_location and bo_serever_auth are set correctly.
