What would cause a VMXCHG0028E error 36 to be issued when trying to initialize VM:Director for the first time?

Error trying to initialize VM:Director for the first time.
VMXCFH0028E error '36' initializing directory disk.
Error '36' means that the volume containing the CP object directory extent is read-only (typically MAINT's 123, LINK MAINT 123 1A0).

Solution

Please verify that VM:Director has WRITE access to the DASD with the active directory.

  1. From user MAINT, you can issue Q ALLOC DRCT
  2. Verify that this mdisk is linked to VM:Director as 1A0 in W/R mode
  3. Check that the PRODUCT CONFIG on VM:Director's 191 to verify theDIRECT record.
