Alchemist uses its own access method to manage various control libraries within the system, called virtual partitioned access method (VPAM). It has similar facilities to a partitioned data set (PDS) but is based on VSAM files. It is a VSAM RRDS that is pre-formatted by Alchemist and always shows as 100% used if viewed by the IBM IDCAMS utility.
Alchemist provides utilities to enable the Alchemist administrator to maintain these VPAM files. See the ESP Alchemist Administrator's Guide for details.
