Introduction:

User would like to know which port that vertica using and needs to open to the local network.

Please be aware that Vertica does not recommend placing a firewall installed in between cluster nodes, all nodes should be behind the firewall.

Environment:

CA Performance Management 2.4.0 and above.

Answer:

These ports are used by Vertica database.

User can run this command to check and verify on linux:

netstat –atupn

Port 22 (TCP protocol, Required by Administration Tools and the Management Console Cluster Installation wizard.)

Port 4803 (TCP and UDP protocol, Client connections, Daemon to Daemon connections..)

Port 4804 (UDP protocol, Daemon to Daemon connections.)

Port 5433 (TCP protocol, Vertica spread monitoring, Vertica client (vsql, ODBC, JDBC, etc) port.)

Remote access is required to this port.

Port 5434 (TCP protocol, Intra- and inter-cluster communication. Vertica opens the Vertica client port +1 (5434 by default) for intra-cluster communication, such as during a plan. If the port +1 from the default client port is not available, then Vertica opens a random port for intra-cluster communication.)

Port 5444 (TCP protocol, MC-to-node and node-to-node (agent) communications port.)

Port 5450 (TCP protocol, Port used to connect to MC from a web browser and allows communication from nodes to the MC application/web server. )

Port 6543 (UDP protocol, Monitor to Daemon connection.)
