Answer:
The CA SDM role must have MODIFY rights to the Contact and Group objects.

ADMINISTRATION TAB -> SECURITY AND ROLE MANAGEMENT -> ROLE MANAGEMENT -> ROLE LIST, select Role and then select '2. Functional Access' tab
