Description:

Using the free CA Concatenate software utility, you can combine multiple PTFs into one binary file to upload to the mainframe. Below are the instructions to download the CA Workload Automation Restart Option for z/OS Schedulers r11.0 PTFs, CA Concatenate utility, and instructions how to install and use the utility to consolidate multiple PTFs into one binary file to be uploaded to the mainframe.

Solution:

  1. Go to the CA Support Web Page: http://www.support.ca.com and login as normal.

  • Select the 'Download Center' link and enter the following search parameters:
    • Type of Download = 'Published Solutions'
    • Select the Product: 'CA Workload Automation Restart Option for z/OS Schedulers - MVS'
    • Release: '11.0'
    • Under Select a Component(s), uncheck the 'Select All' box
    • Select the component(s) of interest: 'CA-11'
    • Select the Operating System: 'OS'
    • Select the Gen level: '0000'
    • Increase the Results per Page to '100'
    • Press 'Go'.

  • Select the 'Add All to Cart (per page)' box in the upper right hand corner, so that all of the PTFs will be added to your Download Cart at once.

  • Select to 'View Solutions Cart', then scroll to the bottom and select 'Checkout'.

  • On the 'Download Package Details' screen, select the following values:
    • Do you want a complete package for all? Yes
    Set the Component & Gen Level to: '11 - 11.0 - 0000'
    Then select 'Continue'.

  • At this point, you will wait to receive an e-mail with the Subject Line 'DOWNLOAD CART' with a download link included within the e-mail. Once you receive the e-mail, you can either double click on the link or return to your browser session where you are logged in to CA Support. Under 'Today's Downloads' find the corresponding order number and select the 'HTTP via DLM' link on the right hand side. When the 'Save As' window appears, browse to the folder you choose and select 'Save' to save the zip file to your hard drive.

Note: Remember which directory you have selected to download the files to for future reference.

  • The 'CA Download Manager' window will appear. Once the download is complete (Progress = 100%), select 'Exit' to close the window. A 'Download Manager - Warning' window will appear, select 'Yes' to confirm that you would like to exit the Download Manager.

  • Then go back to your browser session connected to CA Support and select the 'Download Center' link again. Scroll the page down to 'Freeware Utilities / Toolbox' until you find 'CA Concatenate'. Select the 'Download' link to receive a copy of this free software. When the 'File Download' window appears, select 'Save' to save a copy of the CAConcat.zip file to your hard drive. This software allows you to concatenate binary (.bin) or text (.txt) files (not both at the same time) thus reducing the number of files that need to be uploaded to the mainframe. When the 'Save As' window appears, browse to the folder you choose and select 'Save' to save the zip file to your hard drive.

Note: Remember which directory you have selected to download the files to for future reference.

  • Open the CAConcat.zip file you downloaded, and extract all of the files. Then select the concat.inf and right click to select 'Install'. Once the file progress dialog box closes, the installation is complete and you may use the CA Concatenate utility.

  • Open the CA WA Restart Option r11.0 PTF zip file you downloaded earlier, and select 'Extract' to extract all of the PTFs into a chosen directory. Open this directory, and select all of the files you would like to concatenate together. Right click and select 'Concatenate'. A Concatenate window will appear so you can create a filename to save the concatenated PTF files into and select 'Ok'. Once the Progress Menu closes, you will find one new concatenated *.bin file created in the same directory. This single *.bin file containing all of the concatenated PTFs is now ready to upload to the mainframe.

Note: Use the following DCB information when defining the receiving dataset on the mainframe: RECFM=FB, LRECL=80, & BLKSIZE=6160.
