Question:

We are using CA Asset Portfolio Management 12.9 release and integrated with IT Client Automation through CA Sofware Asset Manager, for hardware discovery. How do we get the data from the al_discovered_hardware table into the APM ca_owned_resource table?

Environment:
CA Asset Portfolio Management 12.9, any patch level
Answer:

In the CA Asset Portfolio Management (APM) 12.9 release, the al_discovered_hardware table is populated with discovery data, then the hardware reconciliation service 'matches' or reconciles the data in the ca_owned_resource table against the data in the al_discovered table.
There is no currently no facility in APM 12.9 to add the discovered data to the owned repository automatically.  You can create extracts, like .txt or .csv files from discovery data and create an ITAM data import job to import the data -OR- upgrade to CA Asset Portfolio Management 14.1, where we have added this functionality.

In APM 14.1, the hardware reconciliation process now includes the functionality to add assets to the owned repository (ca_owned_resource), from the discovered data (al_discovered_hardware).

Configure this option under Administration -> Reconciliation Management

When the 'Add Assets To Ownership Repository' option is checked on, then you will see the section at the bottom, named 'Add Assets To Ownership Repository', with 3 additional configuration options:  choose to also add the asset model, update the contact on the asset (the contact will be based upon the user id of the last user associated with the discovered asset), or set the asset lifecycle status to a pre-defined value.
