Problem:

Unwanted Bad Link Alarms are being created.

PollPortStatus is set to False and Live Links are not enabled, however when a device that has a link connected to it loses power CA Spectrum produces an unwanted Bad Link Alarm.

Solution:

If you do not want to receive "Bad Link Alarm" on an interface then the attribute GeneratePortStatusAlarms (attribute 0x12a54) on the interface should be set to no.

Every time the Internal_link_status attribute is read (by a user from the GUI, or CLI, or by code, stemming from polling, or fault isolation, traps, or even neighbor devices interested in the attribute, etc) then CA Spectrum will recalculate its value.

If CA Spectrum finds that the new link status is not Good, itwill check the  GeneratePortStatusAlarms  attribute, and, if set to  Yes , will generate the link event (and alarm) on the port model. The bad link alarm may stem from any of the reasons above, simply reading the internal_link_status from the GUI might cause it.

Setting the GeneratePortStatusAlarms attribute to No is the recommended setting if you don t ever want to see such alarms on that port.
