Unicenter Patch Manager(UPM) Package does not move to "Testing" status when the Enterprise Manager is involved.

The below procedure will help to reset the situation at Enterprise Manager and UPM level.



The status of the patch in UPM hangs at "Distributing" state and would not moving to "Testing".

The SD container is successfully created but the package is stuck at 100% with a "Waiting" or "Failed" status.


On the Enterprise Manager: 

- Halt & Terminate the SD Jobs in failed / waiting state                                

- Open a DOS prompt and stop / kill the plugins as per below commands

  1. caf stop sdmgr_im                                              
  2. caf stop sdmgr_tm                                              
  3. caf stop sdmgr_ft                                                                                                             
  4. caf kill sdmgr_im                                              
  5. caf kill sdmgr_tm                                              


- Delete the file <number>.jnl which appears under        


- Restart the plugins

  • caf start sdmgr_im
  • caf start sdmgr_tm
  • caf start sdmgr_ft


- Open the MS SQL Management Studio and executes the below query on Enterprise mdb in

order to  reset the status of the UPM patch to Pending User Acceptance       


Use mdb                                                                     

update ca_install_package                                                   

set status=3                                                                

where ipkg_name like '%enter the exact UPM patch name here%'

In UPM Console , re-accept the patch and wait for the results at Enterprise Manager if the SD Job is properly delivered to Domain Managers.
