Introduction:

When I run a VLSUTIL library listing against my source file, I see numerous versions of programs but when I attempt to edit or display any of the older versions, I get a 'not found' message.

Question:

Why am I unable to edit or display some of the members in my source file that have an older version number?

Environment:

z/OS, z/VSE

Answer:

Data Dictionary has an entity rolloff parameter (ENTY-HIST-VERS) that rolls off history versions in dictionary but does not delete the VLS members. You can run a VERIFY library (IDUTILTY) to get a list of members that exist in VLS but no longer have dictionary entries. You can then use VLSUTIL DELETE to delete the orphaned entries.
