The SNMP Enterprise Manager ID Changes after an EM Restart.

Issue:

The Enterprise Manager (EM) is setup to notify a remote application via SNMP traps. The traps are received, but the OID identifier for the EM (1.3.6.1.4.1.10480.1.1.xxxx - where xxxx is the identifier for the EM) changes whenever the EM is restarted. As a result, it is impossible to determine which EM is sending the trap in a multi-EM environment.

Environment:
EM setup to send SNMP traps for all supported APM releases.
Cause:

The OID for the EM is saved in an xml file in the folder <EM_HOME>/config/internal/server/snmp. When it is not present (which can occur when a MIB is not  published), the EM's OID is randomly recreated when the EM is restarted.

Resolution:

This problem can be fixed by generating a MIB file. To create a MIB file:

  1. Log in to the Workstation as a user with publish_mib access to the server.
  2. In the Workstation, open the Management Module Editor.
  3. Select ManagerPublish MIB.
  4. In the MIB Type area, check the box of the MIB type to publish. You can publish multiple MIB types.
  5. Select a time period from the drop-down list, to specify how often values that are reported by the SNMP agent are updated. The default period is one minute.
  6. Click Publish.
