The client recently expired several large reports, from the View database, most of which were archived to tape.
They wanted to know if their running SARPAC, to conslidate the reports on tape, would release some of the database index space being used.
Deleting (expiring) reports from the database may or may not expire tapes, depending on if there are other active reports still on those tapes.
The SARPAC process will move active reports from current tapes to new tapes.
At the next View backup following the SARPAC, the older tapes will be expired.
View index space is released when a report or tape is expired, so running SARPAC would not (in and of itself) have much of an effect on index space.
