TDoD: HTTP Error 500.19- Internal Service Error

Issue:

When trying to access the Test Data on Demand (TDoD) portal from the Application server, I get the following error:

Server Error: 500- Internal server error

Config Error: Cannot read configuration file due to insufficient privileges

Config File: \\?\Grid-Tools\TDoD\TDoD_WebUI\web.config   

 

Steps to reproduce: 

1. Open a web browser (for example, Internet Explorer).

2. Enter the URL http://<server>:8090

3. Receive 500 server error. 

Environment:
TDM 3.2.2 -> TDM 3.8
Cause:

Permissions issue when the user attempts to start TDoD service.

Resolution:

1. Open the IIS Manager. 
2. On the left pane, expand the Application Pools folder. 
3. Right-click "TDoDWeb" and then select "Advanced Settings". 
4. Expand the "Process Model" section. 
5. For the "Identity" section, select "Local System" from the dropdown list. 
6. Click OK. 
7. On the left pane, expand the Web Sites/Sites folder. 
8. Right-click "TDoDWeb" then click Manage Website > Advanced Settings. 
9. For Application pool, make sure the value is "TDoDWeb". Else, select that value from the dropdown list. 
10. Click OK. 
11. Restart the IIS Admin Service.
