Question:

How to switch roles between the Primary and Shadow Schedulers on a WAAE instance running in High Availability mode?

Environment:
Workload Automation AE 11.3.xUNIX/Linux
Answer:

WAAE Primary and Shadow Scheduler roles can be switched by performing the following steps:

  • Stop all WAAE services on the Primary WAAE Server.
  • Stop all WAAE services on the Shadow WAAE Server.
  • Stop all WAAE services on the Tie-Breaker WAAE Server (if it exists). *
  • Edit the $AUTOSUER/config.$AUTOSERV file on the Primary WAAE Server and modify the RoleDesignator parameter from '1' to '2':

RoleDesignator=2

  • Edit the $AUTOSUER/config.$AUTOSERV file on the Shadow WAAE Server and modify the RoleDesignator parameter from '2' to '1':

RoleDesignator=1

  • Start all WAAE services on the new Primary WAAE Server (old Shadow server).
  • Start all WAAE services on the new Shadow WAAE Server (old Primary server).
  • Start all WAAE services on the Tie-Breaker WAAE Server (if it exists). *
Additional Information:

* Tie-Breaker Server is only required in Dual Scheduler Dual Database environments. It will not exist in Single Scheduler Dual Database or Dual Scheduler Single Database environments.
