ISSUE: Spectrum generating a Normal alarm from Severity Maps file when Severity value set to zero. Expected an event only, For example, the following is a Severity Map configuration:

1 0

2 0

3 0

4 1

5 2

6 2

7 3

The left column of data is the string and the right column of data is the severity to assign the alarm if the value of the varbind is equal to the string. From reading the documentation concerning the creation of Severity Map files, the user may get the impression that specifying a severity of zero will only generate an event.

CAUSE: Documentation inaccurate. A value of zero indicates a NORMAL alarm.

RESOLUTION: The following is a breakdown of the Severity values seen in a Severity Map file:

Normal - 0

Minor - 1

Major - 2

Critical - 3

Maintenance - 4

Suppressed - 5

Initial - 6

Clear - C

Clear All - A

If no alarm is needed, do not include the string in the Severity Maps file.
