Issue:

SpectroSERVER failing to start, attempting to bind to connection port 0xbeef. The following is seen in the VNM.OUT file:

Attempting to bind connection port 0xbeef

Retry number 1 in 30 seconds.

Retry number 2 in 30 seconds.

Retry number 3 in 30 seconds.

Retry number 4 in 30 seconds.

Cause:

When the SpectroSERVER starts, it needs to bind to port 0xbeef (48879). This port falls in the ephermeral port range on some operating systems so another process may already be bound to this port preventing the SpectroSERVER from being able to bind to it.

Resolution:
Run "netstat -anp | grep 48879" to find the application that is currently bound to port 48879. Restart the application and then rerun the "netstat -anp | grep 48879" command to ensure port 48879 is now free. If you are unable to determine what process is currently bound to port 48879, rebooting the system may cause the port to become available.
