Software Catalog start Screen setting not being saved

In the 'Add Software' wizard introduction screen there is a tick box for the option 'Always start this Wizard on Stage 2', which allows you to bypass the introduction screen each time and go straight to the software packages available.

Ticking this box does not work - each time you launch the Add Software wizard, the screen comes back up at Stage 1, even if you tick the box each time to go to Stage 2.

Solution: The C:\Program Files (x86)\CA\DSM\bin\settings.ini has the configuration settings that are used by the Software Catalog. Once the option 'Always start this Wizard on Stage 2' is selected, the settings.ini is created/modified with the startup screen setting.

Sample settings.ini

[AU-TESTLAB1_ADMINISTRATOR]
ASWCONNECTAS=machine
CSWCONNECTAS=machine
SSWSTARTSTAGE=1
RSWCONNECTAS=machine
SSWCONNECTAS=machine
[locale]
codepage=1252
[AU-TESTLAB1]
SSWVIEW=
ASWSTARTSTAGE=2

The parameter 'ASWSTARTSTAGE' is used to specify the screen to be used when the 'Add Software' wizard is launched. A value of 2 indicates that screen 2 will be displayed when the 'Add Software' wizard is launched. (AU-TESTLAB1 = name of the machine)

If the 'Always start this Wizard on Step 2' option is chosen, but screen 1 is displayed always, check whether C:\Program Files (x86)\CA\DSM\bin\settings.ini exists. If it does not exist, check if the user account has sufficient privileges on the C:\Program Files (x86)\CA\DSM\bin folder. Another option is to launch the catalog using the Administrator account and selecting the option 'Always start this Wizard on Step 2', which should create settings.ini.

If settings.ini exists but is not getting updated, do the following:

1. Close the Software Catalog.

2. Open settings.ini using notepad and change the value of the parameter 'ASWSTARTSTAGE' to 2. Save the file.

3. Launch Software Catalog again.
