Service Catalog Service won't start due to login

I imported a database (or took some other action) and then ran the ANT commands in the migration steps from the documentation.
However, I still cannot keep the service running or run the catalog setup utility (which requires the service be running).
Looking in the %USM_HOME%\logs\view\servicecatalog.log file I see a login error:
Login failed for user 'mdbadmin' 
The service cannot connect to the MDB with MDBADMIN.
This only applies to this error. If the service does not stay running then always change first the %USM_HOME%\logs\view\servicecatalog.log file and second (sometimes) the %USM_HOME%\logs\view.log
First backup (always backup) and then edit the file and you should be able to specify the connection information in there at least so you can startup the service and run the setup utility to properly make sure the password is encrypted etc. 
To encrypt a new mdbadmin password to put in the file you run the catalog cmd prompt and run:
encrypt.bat <password>
