Introduction:

The current data retention policy in the Setup -> Domain tab within CEM is configured to keep hourly data for 3 days, daily data for 15 days and weekly data for 27 weeks. This can be found in https://docops.ca.com/ca-apm/10-5/en/administrating/cem-configuration/administer-cem/distribute-enterprise-manager-service/define-the-ca-cem-domain.

Question:

Users observe that they are able to pull a report for a specific transaction which displays hourly statistics for a date outside the data retention period.  Why is this?

Environment:
All APM releases running APM CE (CEM)
Answer:

Users can see data older than the CEM retention settings because the supporting statistics tables (such as StatsTranSetGroupAllDaily) in the database are subject to a non-configurable retention policy within the DB Cleanup Service of 2 years.

Configurable settings in the CEM Domains tab specify the retention policy only for user and user group related statistics tables which can be larger that non-user statistics tables.
