'Search' function in CAPC Views does not find items' Name Alias

Issue:

The 'Search' box in the dashboard Views does not find matches in the items 'Name Alias' column.

Try searching for a string that is only present in the item Name Alias column of the View - for example, you have many interfaces in the 'IM Table (Top)' View, and one interface have a given string 'xxxxxxxxxx' in the Interface Name Alias:

The Search for that string 'xxxxxxxxxx' just returns "No Data To Display", and no Interface is found/listed:

Environment:
CA PC 3.1.0 and 3.2.0
Cause:

We do not synchronize item's Name Alias from CA Performance Center to the Data Aggregator.  The Search button doesn't return the item Name Alias matches because the item Name Alias is not present in the Data Aggregator.
Tables, custom Views and default Views cannot be searched by Alias names because this information is not synchronized to the Data Aggregator in current CA Performance Management versions.

 

Resolution:

This is working as designed in current CA Performance Management versions.

The Search button doesn't return the item Name Alias matches because the Alias information isn't available in the Data Aggregator.

We don't synchronize the 'Name Alias' information to the Data Aggregator. That Search box sends the query to the Data Aggregator with the search string entered and compares it against Device Name, Item name, Metrics column values.  It doesn't compare it against Name Alias.

 

 

 

Additional Information:

There is ongoing investigation and evaluation by Development to determine if we can add the feature to synchronize the Alias information to the Data Aggregator. This will allow the Search box match results for all visible columns in the View, including item Name Alias.
