This document includes ASCII-EBCDIC conversion tables and which include the Spanish characters that are not considered in the Default conversion tables distributed with the product (for example: Ñ, ñ, á, é, í, ó, ú, ü). They are useful in the transfers of text files between Windows and IBM z/OS or i5/OS systems.

This document contains a .zip file with sample conversion tables that can be used by CA XCOM for Windows for transfers that occur between an EBCDIC and ASCII system, which will require code translation. They are usually needed with text type file transfers between MS Windows (ASCII code) and IBM (EBCDIC code) z/OS (mainframe) or i5/OS (iSeries or AS400) systems.

  1. Conversion tables

The files attached are:         Ascii-To-Ebcdic conversion table         Ebcdic-To-Ascii conversion table

Those tables were modified to include Spanish characters like Ñ, ñ, á, é, í, ó, ú and others.

  2. Characters converted by the tables.

The tables contain code conversion for the next set of characters:

    abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz @ ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ
    ???????? ???????? 0123456789 ??|#!"$%&/()=??*\+-,._?'[];:??~

  3. Check conversion in your environment.

The tables were tested in transfers from MS Windows to an iSeries system ( and from iSeries system to MS Windows (, however they are provided as samples that the user should test to verify that the conversion are correct in their environments.
Additional Information:
  • Please take into account that those tables are used only when the CA XCOM parameter INTERNAL_CONVERSION_TABLES=NO.

For details about the use of external conversion tables ASCII-EBCDIC please consult the CA XCOM Data Transport for Windows NT Server/Professional User Guide.
