Running EUREKA:Reporter Server Manually from the Desktop

In this document you will learn how to run EUREKA:Reporter Server manually by using the rptengine.exe found in the \Eureka\Reporter\Server directory.

Operating Systems:
If you are using version 7.0x Report Server, applicable operating systems are Windows NT and 2000. If you are using version 7.1 Report Server, Windows 2000 is applicable. If you are using version 7.2 Report Server, Windows 2000 and 2003 are applicable.

Manually running Rptengine.exe

With the RSstarter service stopped double click on Rptengine.exe from the \Eureka\Reporter\Server directory.

This will open the Reporter Engine (as seen below)

When you run EUREKA: Reporter Server from the desktop instead of as a Windows Service, the system uses the permissions of the user who is currently logged on to the machine. This can sometimes be useful for debugging purposes. For instance, if you are having a problem with printing when running EUREKA:Reporter Server as a Windows Service, you can start EUREKA:Reporter Server from the desktop and test printing. If printing works for the currently logged-in user, you know the problem has to do with the user ID and permissions being used when you are running as a service.

The Reporter Engine also works the same way as the Report Viewer. If you do not have Reporter Designer installed on your Report Server machine but need to see the output of a report you can open the .IQR in the Report Engine and view the output.

This is also handy for troubleshooting a report that is not running correctly or failing on the Report Server. If the report outputs correctly within the Report Engine or Report Designer we know that the ODBC connection for the report is working correctly and to review other configuration settings on the Server.
