Question:

What causes these messages from the RELOAD utility?

PRIOR/OWNER POINTER FOR SET IN RECORD (ID=xxx) AT dbkey IS INVALID BECAUSE TARGET RECORD NOT UNLOADED ORIGINAL DBKEY WAS dbkey MISSING TARGET DBKEY dbkey

Answer:

These messages usually indicate one of the following:

  1. Broken chains in the database. Please run IDMSDBAN to identify broken chains. If any are found, they must be fixed and the utility must be rerun from the UNLOAD step.

  2. LDEL present in the areas. Please run CLEANUP utility to remove logically deleted records.

  3. Incorrect dataset specification in the jcl, like formatting the wrong areas. Please correct the jcl and rerun the RELOAD.

  4. Something happening to one of the intermediate datasets, such as not being cataloged. Please correct and rerun the utility from the previous step from where the problem occurred.
