Introduction:

When installing CA Client Automation manager with the MDB on a remote computer, SQL instance name and port were provided at setup.

Question:

How can I change the port number and/or instance? Is there a way to use dynamic port or automatically detect which port is used for the given instance?

Environment:

CA Client Automation - All Versions

Answer:

Dynamic port numbers is not supported by DSM.
However, you can change/reconfigure the SQL Instance name and SQL port used by DSM post-installation by executing the following command on the DOMAIN Manager:

ccnfcmda -cmd SetParameterValue -ps itrm/database/default -pn dbmsInstance -v "New Instance Name,Instance Listening Port"
(to set the new MS SQL Server instance name and listening port (separated by a comma))

ccnfcmda -cmd SetParameterValue -ps itrm/database/default -pn dbmsinstance -v
(to set the DBMS instance to the default instance (for MS SQL Server))

Example1: If the

New DBMS host name is NewServer.dom.com
New named instance is NewInstance
Listening port for NewInstance is 1456
New ca_itrm/ca_itrm_ams password is NewPassword

Then execute the following commands:
ccnfcmda -cmd SetParameterValue -ps itrm/database/default -pn dbmsServer -v NewServer.dom.com
ccnfcmda -cmd SetParameterValue -ps itrm/database/default -pn dbmsInstance -v NewInstance,1456

Example2: If the

New DBMS host name is NewServer.dom.com
MS SQL Server default instance and port

Then execute the following commands:
ccnfcmda -cmd SetParameterValue -ps itrm/database/default -pn dbmsServer -v NewServer.dom.com
ccnfcmda -cmd SetParameterValue -ps itrm/database/default -pn dbmsInstance -v

Note:   Always make and retain a backup copy of the last working COMSTORE file
(Default location: DSM Root\Agent\CCNF\comstore.enc) before attempting to make any modifications.
