Questions about TDM installation and usage for z/OS data

Introduction:

For a brief while, there was a new version that supported new features for the FDM Mainframe software.  Unfortunately, it had issues and the product management and engineering teams felt it should simply be backed out.  This might have caused some confusion since it was even in the documentation we supported new features.  The answers to below questions should help in clearing out some of the concerns.

Question:

1) Are the mainframe components installed with SMP/E? The install guide infers that they are not. If they are not, how is maintenance applied?

2) Does CA TDM for Mainframe support PDS or PDS/E datasets? It explicitly states support for PS datasets, but not PO datasets.

3) Does CA TDM for Mainframe have an Eclipse plug-in for use in an Eclipse based Workbench?

Environment:
zOS DB2
Answer:

1) Are the mainframe components installed with SMP/E? The install guide infers that they are not. If they are not, how is maintenance applied?

Not currently. There was a “version 6” of the installation which used SMP/E but there were a number of issues with this so it is not currently used (and the documentation was changed to remove references to it). At some (unspecified) point in the future we may fix the SMP/E installation and start using it. Maintenance is applied on an ad-hoc basis.

2) Does CA TDM for Mainframe support PDS or PDS/E datasets? It explicitly states support for PS datasets, but not PO datasets.

Unfortunately, only PDS datasets are supported at this time.

3) Does CA-TDM for Mainframe have an Eclipse plug-in for use in an Eclipse based Workbench?

No. You can submit an enhancement request to see this added to the product by using the steps in this document: https://support.ca.com/us/knowledge-base-articles.TEC1107947.html
