Introduction:

After Cumulative Patch 3, the Heat Weather daemon(pdm_hw_nxd.exe) will be configured to run even the xFlow is not installed. This is sometimes confusing and annoying.

This document will discuss how the administrators can configure to remove this daemon in Service Desk Manager configuration.

Question:

How to prevent Heat Weather daemon from running as I don't have xFlow installed?

Environment:
Service Desk Manager/CMDB 14.1 CP3, windows or Unix/Linux
Answer:

Please follow these steps on primary server if the environment is conventional, or background and standby servers if the environment is advanced availability:

1. Log in into web interface as administrator and then go to Administration->Options Manager and set the "heat_weather" option in options manager to a value of "Off"

***Step 2 is optional - It will prevent the heat and weather daemons from starting up so they wont use any CPU or memory on the server(s)***

2. Modify pdm_startup files to remove reference to PDM_HW_NXD/pdm_hw_nxd

Modify pdm_startup, pdm_startup.i and pdm_startup.tpl under the pdmconf directory to remove any reference to PDM_HW_NXD and pdm_hw_nxd. Save the changes.

3. Recycle Service Desk Manager

***Step 4 is optional and only needed if you performed Step 2***

4. Verify that pdm_hw_nxd is gone

From command prompt, run "pdm_status" and make sure entry like this does not show up in the list:

    Heat Weather      (pdm_hw_nxd) Running
