Introduction:
This article provides information regarding the support for PDSE datasets in CA OPS/MVS.
Question:
We are planning to migrate some of the datasets allocated by OPS/MVS from regular PDS to PDSE. Are PDSE datasets supported by OPS/MVS and are there any restrictions we should be aware of?
Environment:
CA OPS/MVS release 13.0
z/OS
Answer:
CA OPS/MVS supports the use of PDSE datasets. They are used for libraries and rulesets.

Please take note of the following:
  • PDSE sharing does not work outside of a sysplex.
  • For RULES, we do use STOW IN PLACE, which PDSE extended sharing does not support. OPS/MVS does a stow in place to autoenable rules. So, keep the PDS for rules datasets if you are using the AUTOENABLE for your rule datasets.
  • When you use PDSE datasets for RULES, you may want to control rule updates. Please see the information below for setting the parameter AOFINITOPEN to INPUT.
