Password Field length limitation with CA Service Desk Manager (CA SDM) DataDirect ODBC driver.

Description:

The DataDirect ODBC Driver (version 6.0) provided with CA SDM 12.6, 12.7, and 12.9 has a 19 character limit for the password field.

Solution:

The CA SDM (or DataDirect or Progress Software) ODBC Driver (version 6.0) provided with CA SDM 12.6, 12.7, and 12.9 has a 19 character limit for the password field. Any characters over the 19 limit, are not accepted into the Password field.

If an account with a  password longer than 19 characters is used, the follow error is received when testing the ODBC connection:

The following errors are seen within the CA SDM STDLOG:

boplgin 20968 SIGNIFICANT bplhndlr.c 698 Cannot logon user 'servicedesk' (Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password. )

boplgin 20968 ERROR bplaccess.c 3736 AHD04010:Login failed for userid (servicedesk)

Unfortunately, this is a technical limitation of the DataDirect 6.0 ODBC driver that is provided by a 3rd party vendor.

Workaround is to ensure that the password for the CA SDM account used in the ODBC Configuration is less than 19 characters.
