Introduction:
During the export of the production GTREP repository,  there were over 500,000 views created.   As a result, we could not upgrade due to the number of views.  There were so many views that even backups failed due to the sheer volume/size of these views.
Question:
Can we get an explanation on what the other views are (like LV_? and MV?) ?
Environment:
TDM upgrade from 3.8 to 4.2.
Answer:
Here is a cross-reference of the naming convention of each view to the type of change:
  • MV_* - This was created when you opened the data pool for editing.
  • RV_* (Row view) - This was created in the Data Definition for the data pool and you selected "Open used tables (Row 1)" which created a new session.
  • FNV_* (Fixed Name View) - these are created to handle testmatching as well as when selecting ‘Make Test Data available for external use’
  • PV_* (Publish view) – these are created during Datamaker publish All these views can be removed if no activity is being carried out by datamaker or testmatching
There were so many views due to the extreme number of failed views that resulted from Datamaker being improperly shut down due to failures or simple hard kills.
