Description:

Customer found during management of a Level2 system that NOFORMAT for DELMDISK and DELENTRY still requires a write link of the minidisks being deleted.

The disk being moved must be able to be write linked even if you specify the NOFORMAT option.

This is not what would be expected for NOFORMAT so we intend to add this information to the VM:Secure documentation for NOFORMAT for commands

CHGMDISK, DELMDISK, DELENTRY and DELENTRY.

Solution:

To let customers know that the disk being deleted still needs to be able to be write linked to, even if no formatting is specified.

CA intends to update the VM:Secure and VM:Director Reference Guide with the following information:

Chapter 2, Command Reference:

CHGMDISK Command:

Page 2-70, change the last paragraph under {FORMAT|NOFORMAT} option to read:
You must have NOFORMAT MOVE authorization to specify NOFORMAT.
The disk being moved must be able to be write linked even if you specify the NOFORMAT option. CMS disk I/O failures and command errors can occur if a writelink can't be achieved for that disk during this command. VM:Secure ignores the FORMAT and NOFORMAT options for minidisks defined on T-DISK or V-DISK.

DELENTRY Command:

Page 2-90, Add the following before the last sentence for the description of the FORMAT|NOFORMAT options:
The disk being moved must be able to be write linked even if you specify the NOFORMAT option. CMS disk I/O failures and command errors can occur if a writelink can't be achieved for that disk during this command.

DELMDISK Command:

REPENTRY Command:
