Introduction:

In the use case, it was noticed that the netapp probe kept raising the alarm that there are "Unconfigured Disks" on the netapp filer monitored by the probe.  However, when checking the filer there were no unconfigured Disks on the filer at all.

Background:

The netapp probe calculates the unconfigured disks value as follows:
Unconfigured Disk = Total disk Count( OID .1.3.6.1.4.1.789.1.6.4.1.0) - number of spare disk (OID .1.3.6.1.4.1.789.1.6.4.8.0).

In the use case, this meant:

Total Disk Count = 67
Number of Spare Disks - 5

So Unconfigured Disks = 62

In reality, these 62 Disks are in use and were assigned to Aggregates (OID .1.3.6.1.4.1.789.1.6.4.2.0 ).

Environment:
UIM (any version)Netapp probe (any version)
Instructions:

The formula to calculate the "Unconfigured Disks" can be adjusted following the instructions below.

• You can change default formula by changing in netapp.dta and netapp.cfg file.

• Changes in netapp.dta: Edit the checkpoint ( Number of Unconfigured Disks)
<Number of Unconfigured Disks>
unit = Count
CIType = 5.1.4.1
CIMetric = 12
desc = The number of unconfigured disks.
<NetApp>
type = 5
lookup_base_table_disc =
match_string =
lookup_base_table_value =
<oids>
<1>
oid = .1.3.6.1.4.1.789.1.6.4.1.0
</1>
<2>
oid = .1.3.6.1.4.1.789.1.6.4.8.0
</2>
<3>
oid = .1.3.6.1.4.1.789.1.6.4.2.0
</3>
</oids>
formula = ($1) - (($2) + ($3))
</NetApp>
</Number of Unconfigured Disks>

• Changes in netapp.cfg file: Select the profile for which formula needs to be changed, edit the formula and add the new oid for that profile only(same as we did in netapp.dta file).

formula = ($1) - (($2) + ($3))
<oids>
<1>
oid = .1.3.6.1.4.1.789.1.6.4.1.0
</1>
<2>
oid = .1.3.6.1.4.1.789.1.6.4.8.0
</2>
<3>
oid = .1.3.6.1.4.1.789.1.6.4.2.0
</3>
</oids>

• Restart the netapp probe and check data and formula in GUI.
