"MSI Error 1602" while upgrading the DSM components on a VMWare machine

Description

While upgrading the DSM components (Agents, Scalability Server etc...) on a VMWare machine using an ISO image (connected via the CD-ROM), the installation fails with:

MSI Error 1602

The %TEMP%\DSMUpgrade*.log contains the following:

Solution

This error occurs sometimes on a VMWare machine with MSI Upgrade when using the VMWare CD-ROM.

The solution is to copy the source from the DVD on a local or network directory on the machine and run the upgrade from this source.
