Migration Instruction for the SLMO INGRESII Database to MSSQL2000

This document is intended to outline the migration steps for SLMO when you wish to move your database from INGRESII to MSSQL 2000, this migration should relate to MSSQL 7.0 also but it does focus on SQL2000 only.

It should also be noted that this is not a fully tested migration path, and issues could arise due to environmental constraints, such as security or application customisations.

This document only covers one migration method, using the INGRESII ODBC drivers, via a File DSN.

Note: This document assumes you have installed SLMO and it is using SQL server as its Database Engine.

Installation of the INGRES/Net client on the MSSQL Server

To migrate the INGRESII database to SQL we will first need to install the INGRES/Net client and then the updated ODBC drivers.

P10530.ZIP - The Latest Ingres ODBC Drivers

Extract both files so they are ready for installation.

Execute Setup.exe to start the INGRESII install. 
Click Next 
Click Next Accept Defaults 
After clicking Next you will see the following message just click ok as we are not going to install the DBMS.Advantage Ingres Enterprise Edition Setup Wizard
Only have INGRES/Net Installed and click NextAdvantage Ingres Enterprise Edition Setup Wizard
Click Next 
Click Next - Unless you wish to define a different install location. 
Click Finish 
Installation will commence 
Click OK once installation has completed 
Installation of ODBC Upgrade for INGRESII 
Execute Install.exe 
Click Continue 
Click OK 

Configuring the INGRES/Network

Navigate via the Start Bar to Programs, IngresII [II], Ingres Service Manager

Double click it and click Start 
Once Ingres is Started you will need to connect to your Ingres Database. 
Navigate via the Start Bar to Programs, IngresII [II], Ingres Network UtilityNetwork Ingres Utility
Double click On it to launch it and right click on No Nodes and click Add 
Enter in the Ingres Database server name and the user account should be slm and its default password is slm12345

The Listen Address: This should be SM but if not you will be able to tell if you navigate to Ingres on the SLMO Server it will be in [ ] on the menu item much like the clients [II].

Click OK
Add Virtual Node Definition
Now you need to test it just right click the server under nodes and click Test Node.

You should see the following

Click OK

Now you know you can connect to the INGRESII database without issue.

Migrating IngresII Database to SQL

Launch Enterprise Manager and navigate down to the SLMO database smmdb. Right click the database and select All Tasks, Import Data 
Select Ingres 2.6 as your data source and Click NewDTS Import/Export Wizard
Ensure File Data Source... is selected

Click Next
Create New DataSource
Select Ingres 2.6

Click Next
Create New DataSource
Click browse, then enter in the name of the DSN file and click Save

Click Next
Click Finish 
Enter in your server details as shown in the Opposing screen shot.

Click OK

Once you have created you DSN you will need to select File DSN as shown and browse to the DSN file and select it.

Enter the Local Admin or Domain Admin user account in the Username and Password fields

Click Next
DTS Import/Export Wizard
Click Next 
Select the default to Copy Tables and Views from Source Tables.

Click Next
Select All and click on the transform button for every table.

Select the following option:

Delete Rows In the Destination Table. If this is not done you will receive errors during the migration of data.

Click Next
DTS Import/Export Wizard
Click Next - Select which ever option you want, if you want it to run immediately then just leave the default.

Click Finish - Once completed click ok.

Data will start to be migrated, you should check for errors.

Testing the SLMO Database Migration

Launch IE and go to http://localhost:6668

Login with the SLMO user ID.
After logging in you see the following:

The Tree View on the left hand side not loading you will need to do the following:

Close IE
Open a command prompt.
Run the following commands:

Try launching SLMO again.
Unicenter SLM Console
After doing the above you should be able to view the left hand pain without issue. 
Migrating Reports 
Copy the following directory from the old SLMO server I am assuming that it is an NT system.

C:\Program Files\CA\Unicenter SLM\reports\*.* to your SLMO server.

Your reports should work fine from here on.
