Issue:

Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable that is required to run CA Privileged Identity Manager (CA PIM) properly is not installed on product installation.

Cause:

It is required to enable short format file name (8dot3name) on system to install Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable on CA PIM installation. If it is not enabled, Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable is not installed.

You can confirm/change setting for 8dot3name by fsutil OS command.

e.g.

¥> fsutil 8dot3name query c:
The volume state is: 0 (8dot3 name creation is enabled).
The registry state is: 2 (Per volume setting – the default).
Based on the above two settings, 8dot3 name creation is enabled on c:

Resolution:

The workaround is to enable 8dot3name before installing CA PIM or install Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable manually from installation media.
