Issue:

Incoming mail messages are not processed, and in the stdlog file, the following error can be seen:

pdm_maileater_nxd 344 ERROR hunny_pop3.c 657 POP3 Mail: Failed to connect to <servername> at port 110. Error (6) Connection refused.

Environment:

SDM 12.7 or older, Windows/Linux environment, connecting to a mail server over POP3/IMAP

Resolution:

There are several items to be checked to ensure proper operation of the mail eater process.

1.  Make sure that one of the following protocols is used for authentication: AUTH PLAIN, NTLM or MD5. Specifically, SSL and TLS are not supported for SDM 12.7 and earlier.  Starting with SDM 12.9, TLS is supported.

2.  You may also get this error if one or more Exchange accounts are locked out. Check that no accounts are locked out. Once all accounts are unlocked, restart the maileater process.
