Limit how often an offering or article can be ordered

Introduction:

Requirement is ordering a service offering based on the availability and if not in stock restricting the user from submitting the same offering. 

Question:

How to stop the selection of the same service offering when reached a predefined target?

Environment:
CA Service Catalog 12.9CA Service Catalog 14.1
Answer:

The web interface available way of limiting the use of a specific offering is selecting the 'Selection Type' on offering details. 

 

Follow the below steps for enabling this feature

1. Login to Service Catalog as Administrator

2. Select Catalog tab - and select a specific offering

3. On detail page - Under 'User Request Method' pull the drop down for 'Selection Type'

4. Choose the available option i.e. 'Not Selectable' / 'Can Select Once' / 'Can Select Many Times' from the provided options

5. Save the offering

Additional Information:

Note: The option described above limits how often one user can order an offering, but it will still be available to other users and will not limit the service  availability at global level.
