Question:

What data does the Datamart Extraction job prepare and is this data required for the successful operation of the Clarity application? Can we deactivate this job and not use it?

What about the Datamart Rollup job? Can we deactivate this job?

Answer:

Datamart Extraction Job: Required

Datamart Rollup Time Facts and Time Summary Job: Optional

The 'Datamart Extraction' job is required to be executed on a regular schedule for successful operation of the CA PPM application because part of the job populates the core data points described below. Datamart Extraction Job executes a stored procedure to populate the following tables:

  1. NBI_DIM_OBS and NBI_DIM_OBS_FLAT tables needed for OBS references
  2. NBI_DIM_CALENDAR_TIME table needed for all non-fiscal time-scaled varying (TSV) grids
  3. NBI_DIM_FISCAL_TIME table needed for all fiscal TSV grids and financial processing

The remaining actions of the Datamart Extraction job populates other NBI tables used to summarize or rollup data based on daily sliced data. The data in these other NBI tables are not required for standard Clarity functionality and are meant for customers to use in custom reporting. The execution of the remaining data is dependent on the configuration of Time Slice Definitions, Resource and Project activities that generate event records in the NBI_EVENTS table.

Reference Clarity PPM product documentation guides for information on Datamart Settings and Financial Management minimum configuration setup.

The 'Datamart Rollup: Time Facts and Time Summary' job is not required to run at all. All activities for this job update additional NBI tables that are meant for customers to use in custom reporting.  With the introduction of Data Warehouse and Advanced Reporting in v14.2, it is our recommendation to use the Adhoc Views and Reports for custom reporting.
