We use both CA Spectrum and CA Performance manager together on our network.

We would like to implement threshold monitoring on our network, and both products have the ability to perform both functions, so which should be used in what situation?

CA Performance Management monitors, stores, analyses, and displays a massive amount of information, for assuring service quality across large, complex, multi-technology, multi-vendor network infrastructure. The solution helps the largest networks successfully monetize service offerings while lowering the cost and complexity of service.

CA Spectrum is a services and infrastructure management system, that monitors the state of managed elements.  Status information such as fault and performance data, from these elements is collected and stored.   However, where Spectrum excels is how it uses this data, as CA Spectrum constantly analyses this information, to track conditions within the computing infrastructure. Using its industry leading fault intelligence, if an abnormal condition is detected, the product isolates it, alerts you, and presents the possible causes and solutions.

Any supported combination of CA Spectrum and CA Performance Management

While both products can perform both roles, CA Performance Management was designed specifically for device monitoring and Spectrum for intelligent fault management.

To do this, Threshold monitoring would be enabled via CA PC and Spectrum can then poll CA PC for threshold events and create alerts as needed.
