The Platinum Enterprise Communicator (PEC) install embedded in the AllFusion Harvest Change Manager installation uses an internal buffer of size 1024 characters when it updates the PATH variable, this is enough for older Windows systems. However, with the release of Microsoft Windows XP SP2, the size of the PATH environment variable has been increased to 2048 characters. When installing (or upgrading) AllFusion Harvest Change Manager to a Microsoft Windows XP SP2 machine, if your PATH environment variable is longer than 1024 characters, PEC installation will fail. To verify if a PEC install is successful or not, check the PEC install log at %RTHOME%\pec_450_install.log, where RTHOME is the environment variable that holds the PEC install location.
CA's PEC development team has updated the PEC install to take advantage of the longer limit of the PATH variable on Microsoft Windows XP SP2. However, the new PEC install can not be delivered in a Harvest patch install, because a patch install has to be applied on top of a successful GA install.
If you are planning to install (or upgrade) AllFusion Harvest Change Manager on Microsoft Windows XP SP2 machines where the system PATH variable exceeds 1024 characters, you need to first trim down the PATH variable to be below 1024 characters, do the Harvest setup, and then restore the string that was trimmed from the PATH. You can get and set the system PATH variable at the following registry entry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Environment\Path.
