Description:

When installing AutoSys r4.5 on Solaris the following error is received:

SMX000601 Length of parameter 604800 (line 9 of the PIF prototype file) is invalid (maximum length = 5).
Reason: You entered a value with an invalid length in the PIF prototype file.
Action: Please correct the invalid value.

SMX000006 Unknown product format.
Reason: Only PIF-packaged or PKG-packaged products can be managed.
Action: Enter the name of a product file that contains a valid packaging format.

Solution:

This error can be received when previous installations of CA products have created the following common components.

/usr/bin/lsm
/opt/CA/installer

The simple way to resolve the install problem is to perform the following steps:

  1. rename /usr/bin/lsm
  2. rename /opt/CA/installer
  3. run install script again

The AutoSys installation will create new versions of these common components.

However, if there are already CA products on the system, then this will cause the other components to no longer be seen by the CA provided "lsm" command. This will not cause the products to fail, but they will not be accessible by lsm unless the previous folders and files are migrated/merged back with the new /opt/CA/installer.
