QUESTION:

I am trying to install/upgrade a DSM/CMS MDB but even though I am supplying proper SQL Admin login credentials the install still fails. Why does this happen?

ENVIRONMENT:

Windows

ANSWER:

Due to how the DSM install wrapper was written, it is not sufficient to simply supply SQL admin credentials during the MDB installation. The user logged into Windows that is running the install must also have admin rights in SQL. Both the logged in user AND the provided credentials are verified before an install will continue.

A typical failure might look like the below:

***Note: It is also important to check if the MDB is on a local or on a remote system. The MDB schema can only be installed on a local machine. But in case of a remote MDB, the Manager installation/upgrade will init/upgrade the MDB content. There should be a trusted connection between the Manager and the machine with the MDB.
