Introduction:

In CA SAM after you have loaded the raw inventory data it is necessary to run the Product Recognition Control in order for the raw data to be mapped to the actual signatures.

Question:

How can I trigger the Product Recognition process? We have already imported a lot of raw data from our discovery tool, both devices and ARP data, using the standard connector, but nothing appears in “Software installations”, we only have data in raw tables. Maybe we have missed a cron job for performing this action?

Environment:

CA SAM all versions

Answer:

You can run the Product Recognition Control in two ways. If you want to run it manually you can navigate to Admin > Maintenance > Tools > Product recognition control, select the required options and start the product recognition.

If you prefer to do this automatically via a cron job, you will need to create an XML script and set the appropriate configurations. You can use the product_recognition preprocessor. For additional information on how to do this and a sample XML script please consult the System Administration Manual. You can search for 'Product Recognition (Preprocessor)' or just 'product_recognition'.

Additional Information:

Please note that navigating to Software > Product recognition > Product recognition will NOT execute the product recognition control, this will instead simply run a report against the current product recognition state. This is just a report.
