Description:

I am starting the process to upgrade my CA Datacom/AD software from r11.0 to version 14.0, and am setting up the proc for the Multi-User Facility (called MUF). Do I also need to set up a separate proc for the Dataspace?

Solution:

Since CA Datacom Version 12.0, the Dataspace is created automatically, and a separate proc is no longer needed.

As noted in the version 14.0 CA Datacom/DB Database and System Administration Guide, in the section "Using the Multi-User Facility › Modifying MUF Startup Options › DATASPACE › z/OS Multi-User Facility Local Connections:"

Common memory is used for connections between address spaces on a single z/OS image. ECSA (Extended Common Service Area) memory done with ECSA in protect key 0 (zero) and using DATASPACE memory. The first execution of a MUF allocates a data space under CAMASTER or ASID 1 with a number followed by the letters MUF. This data space is reused each

MUF execution until the next IPL. The name of the data space is provided with the following message:

DB00278I - DATASPACE NAME #####MUF.

You can manage the size of the Dataspace if you need one smaller than the default 2048M through the use of the MUF Startup Option "DATASPACE." Here is the description of that parameter in the CA Datacom/DB Database and System Administration Guide:

DATASPACE

(Optional) You can use the DATASPACE MUF startup option to specify the size of the data space that CA Datacom/DB creates for the Memory Resident Data Facility (MRDF). For z/OS, the default is appropriate. For details on MRDF, see Memory Resident Data Facility. If you do not specify this option, the default is 2048 MB.

For information about data spaces and MUF local connections, see z/OS Multi-User Facility Local Connections.

>> DATASPACE ####M

Valid Entries: 1M to 2048M

Default Value: If you code the DATASPACE MUF startup option, there is no default. If, however, you do not specify the DATASPACE option, the default is 2048M.

For more information about the use of the Dataspace, please refer to the CA Datacom/DB Database and System Administration Guide, in the section "Using the Multi-User Facility › Modifying MUF Startup Options › DATASPACE › z/OS Multi-User Facility Local Connections."

For more information about the DATASPACE MUF Startup Option, please refer to the CA Datacom/DB Database and System Administration Guide, in the section "Using the Multi-User Facility › Modifying MUF Startup Options › DATASPACE."
