In order to confirm TCP connectivity from a Linux box to the Distribution Server you can do the following steps in a root shell:

 (In this case RH5664 is a Linux EP and WIN2K8R2SP1X64 is the ENTM)

 [root@RH5664 ~]# fgrep Distribution_Server /opt/CA/AccessControlShared/accommon.ini
 Distribution_Server = ssl://WIN2K8R2SP1X64.mydom.ca.com:7243
 [root@RH5664 ~]# telnet win2k8r2sp1x64.mydom.ca.com 7243
 Trying 192.168.1.10...
 Connected to win2k8r2sp1x64.mydom.ca.com (192.168.1.10).
 Escape character is '^]'.

 You should then see in a second root shell:

 [root@RH5664 ~]# netstat -a | grep 7243
 tcp 0 0 rh5664.mydom.ca.:33486 win2k8r2sp1x64.my:7243 ESTABLISHED

Should you instead see the TCP half-open embryonic state (specifically, SYN_SENT) then there is a Firewall active in between both boxes hence communication is blocked.

Finally when you have confirmed the TCP connectivity between EP and Distribution Server you should see the following messages in syslog when you startup the CM Agent Manager

 [root@RH5664 ~]# /opt/CA/AccessControlShared/lbin/agent_manager.sh start
 /opt/CA/AccessControlShared/bin/AgentManager start
 Starting AgentManager. PID = 29929.
 [root@RH5664 ~]# tail /var/log/messages
