How to upgrade Xtraction from v3.x to v13.3?

Backup the database

  1. Backup the Xtraction database

Update the Database

  1. Unzip the Xtraction upgrade package/patch.
  2. From the unzipped contents, run the appropriate SQL scripts against the Xtraction database:

    If upgrading from a version prior to v3.4:

    1. DB Updates v3.x to v3.4.sql
    2. DB Updates v3.4 to v13.1.sql
    3. DB Updates v13.1 to v13.3.sql


    If upgrading from v3.4:

    1. DB Updates v3.4 to v13.1.sql
    2. DB Updates v13.1 to v13.3.sql

Backup the current installation

  1. Navigate to the current installation directory (i.e. C:\Program Files\Hagrid Software or C:\Program Files (x86)\Hagrid Software)
  2. Highlight the Xtraction folder and perform a Copy/Paste to create a copy of the Xtraction folder.

Just before the upgrade

  1. Make sure the Data Model Editor is not running on the server (be sure to check any remote sessions)
  2. Stop the Xtraction v3 application pool in IIS
  3. If upgrading from v3.4, stop the Xtraction Task Manager service

Perform the Xtraction upgrade

  1. Navigate to the temp folder where you unzipped the contents of the Xtraction upgrade package/patch
  2. Highlight the three (3) folders in the patch contents - Data, Tools, and Web

  3. Copy these folders to the clipboard
  4. Navigate to the current installation directory (i.e. C:\Program Files\Hagrid Software or C:\Program Files (x86)\Hagrid Software)
  5. You should see 3 folders with the same names as the upgrade/patch contents - Data, Tools, and Web
  6. Paste the clipboard into this folder
  7. You should be prompted that the folders already exist and to confirm that you want to continue overwriting them - answer yes to these prompts.

Update Xtraction Configuration

NOTE: You only need to complete this section if upgrading from a version prior to v3.4

  1. Run Start > All Programs > Xtraction v3 > Settings
  2. Select the Email tab at the top of the Xtraction Settings utility
  3. Complete the Email Settings according to your mail environment settings
  4. Click OK

Server - SMTP server name or IP address
Port - Port number for SMTP server (use 25 for default port, 465 for default SSL port)
Username - Username if SMTP server requires authentication
Password - Password if SMTP server requires authentication
Sender - Email address used as the From address of the emails sent by Xtraction
Use SSL - Check this if Xtraction should use SSL when communicating with SMTP server

Prepare to Set Up the Windows Service

NOTE: You only need to complete this section if upgrading from a version prior to v3.4

  1. Make sure the file is not blocked.

    1. Navigate to the Tools folder (i.e. C:\Program Files\Hagrid Software\xTraction\Tools or C:\Program Files (x86)\Hagrid Software\xTraction\Tools)
    2. Locate the Xtraction.SchedulerService.exe file, right click and select PROPERTIES
    3. Check to see if there is an "Unblock" button on the "General" tab
    4. Click "Unblock", then "Apply", then "OK"

Set Up the Windows Service

NOTE: You only need to complete this section if upgrading from a version prior to v3.4

  1. Open a command prompt

    For 32-bit Windows:

    1. CD to the Tools directory (C:\Program Files\Hagrid Software\Xtraction\Tools)
    2. Run the command: C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\InstallUtil.exe Xtraction.SchedulerService.exe

    For 64-bit Windows:

    1. CD to the Tools directory (C:\Program Files (x86)\Hagrid Software\Xtraction\Tools)
    2. Run the command: C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.30319\InstallUtil.exe Xtraction.SchedulerService.exe

    The result should be similar to:
    The Commit phase completed successfully
    The transacted install has completed

  2. Open the Windows Services manager
  3. Scroll to the bottom where you should see "Xtraction Task Manager"
  4. Setup the appropriate service settings (Startup Type, Logon etc.)
  5. Start the "Xtraction Task Manager" service

Test

  1. Access Xtraction from a web browser
  2. Click on the ABOUT button at the bottom
  3. The 2 versions listed should show the same version

NOTE: If the Client Version shows a lower version (i.e. the previous version), the web browser is still using a locally-cached copy of the previous version. Clear the temporary internet files from the web browser, close the web browser and access Xtraction again.
