Introduction:

How to tell if Identity Manager extensions for Site Minder have been installed

Look up: CA\Identity Manager\Install_config_info\im-uninstall\.com.zerog.registry.xml for a <feature name="Extenstion For Site Minder" ... > tag.

Instructions:

When integrated with Site Minder Identity Manager requires that Site Minder be extended to allow it to integrate to Identity Manager. This requires running the Identity Manager installation wizard on each Site Minder machine and select the Identity Manager extensions option. Here is how to tell if this was actually installed on your Site Minder machine.

We shall differentiate between two situations:

 • Site Minder and Identity Manager on separate machines.
 • Site Minder and Identity Manager on the same machine.

Separate Machines:

1. On the Site Minder machine you can check for the existence of the folder: CA\Identity Manager. This folder will not exist unless Identity

Manager extensions were installed on this machine.

2. On the Site Minder machine you can look up the CA\Identity Manager\install_config_info\im-uninstall\.com.zerog.registry.xml. This file is an internal registry that is used by the un-installer to know what was actually installed to be un-installed when the un-installer runs. You should look for a section like:

<feature name="Extensions for SiteMinder (if SiteMinder is installed locally)" last_modified="2010-09-01 07:08:38">

<![CDATA[IdentityMinder Extensions files for Policy Server]]>

<component ref_id="e8f35342-1ec6-11b2-84a6-ca5535a7a489" version="125.3.0.409" location="C:\Program Files\CA\Identity Manager\.\install_config_info\im-uninstall\uninstall.exe"/>

<component ref_id="802fbd5d-1ee7-11b2-ba58-8ff1afdfe42a" version="125.3.0.409" location="C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp\398581.tmp\framework.properties"/>

<component ref_id="49055ea0-1ee8-11b2-9cff-8ff1afdfe42a" version="125.3.0.409" location=""/>

</feature>

This section is a proof that the Extensions for Site Minder have been installed on this machine. Unless they were installed this will not be available in this file.

Same Machine:

When both SM and IDM are on the same machine you won't get anything by looking up the CA\Identity Manager - of course it will be there since Identity Manager has been installed on this machine.

In this situation you only have the option to use the second option above:

You can look up the CA\Identity Manager\install_config_info\im-uninstall\.com.zerog.registry.xml. This file is an internal registry that is used by the un-installer to know what was actually installed to be un-installed when the un-installer runs. You should look for a section like:

<component ref_id="49055ea0-1ee8-11b2-9cff-8ff1afdfe42a" version="125.3.0.409" location=""/>

</feature>

This section is a proof that the Extensions for Site Minder have been installed on this machine. Unless they were installed this will not be available in this file.

To conclude:

Looking at the .com.zerog.registry.xml file is the safest and most accurate check you can use to know for certain that the extensions were installed in any situation.
