Introduction:

The distsrv probe has a forwarding feature to reduce network load and help with package distribution speed. Rather than push a probe package multiple times over a Wide Area Network (WAN) you can have another copy of the archive on other hubs. The distsrv will forward packages on an interval increasing performance of probe deployments and updates and reduce load on the primary distsrv.

Background:

The distsrv forwarding function is ideal when you are in a multi-tiered hub environment connected via tunnels or slow bandwidth links.
You will need to have multiple distsrvs in your environment. One on the primary hub (by default) and remote distsrvs under other hubs.

Environment:

CA Unified Infrastructure Manager (UIM) 7.6 - 8.4

Instructions:

  On the Primary Distsrv:

  1. Within Infrastructure Manager navigate to the primary hub and open up the configuration for distsrv.
  2. Click the Setup tab.

  In Forwarding tab under setup:

  1. Forwarding Active must be checked.
  2. Always forward license with package is a best practice.

In Advanced Settings tab under setup:

  1. Select Use remote distsrv on distributions

 In Forwarding tab:

  1. Right click the table
  2. Select Add Record
  3. In the Server Field select the other distsrv distribution you wish to push packages to
  4. Select the Type of forwarding you wish to enable - the most common are listed below.
    • Specific: Only selected packages with a check-mark are candidates for forwarding. Selecting the "All Versions" checkbox will forward all versions of that probe. IE - cdm 5.5,5.6, 5.61.
    • All: Will create a duplicate archive on the remote distsrv under the Nimsoft directory. This will involve more space usage than any other option.

     5. Select Apply and Ok.  distsrv will restart and the changes will be applied. Packages will start forwarding. Depending on the amount of packages and bandwidth              this can take up to or more than an hour. You can continue to the next step as this processes is being completed.

On the Remote distsrv:

  1. In infrastructure manager navigate to the remote hub and open up the configuration for distsrv.
  2. Click the Setup tab.

In Advanced Settings tab under setup:

  1. Select Accept remote distributions
  2. Select Use local archive for a accepted remote distributions

Select Apply and Ok - distsrv will restart and the changes will be applied
